Welcome to Neil Cullen, our new Deputy Superintendent of the Greens Team at Deer Park Golf. Neil wanted to take a moment to introduce himself and provide an update on the work that has been completed over the past four weeks since he began working with Gerry and the team.
"My primary focus during this time has been on maintaining the greens. We've successfully completed our annual seed head control and carried out a deep verti-cut. This process helps remove unwanted grasses and reduces thatch levels, which is essential for improving overall green quality. Additionally, we’ve applied 20 tons of sand across all greens to further address thatch buildup and ensure firmer greens throughout the year.
We have also, aerated our greens twice in the past month which will give much needed oxygen after the hot spell of weather
Thankfully, the weather has been favourable allowing us to carry out this important maintenance work.
In addition to the greens, we’ve made significant improvements to other areas of the course:
Tee Boxes: These have been reshaped and fertilized to promote stronger, healthier growth.
Fairways: We are in the process of reshaping the fairways and mowing them to a height of 13mm. We’ve also added a semi-rough around the fairways, mowed at 25mm, to help define the fairways and enhance the overall look of the course.
Approaches: To improve the challenge of the short game, we’ve added run-off and swale areas around the green complexes. These areas, marked by a broken white line, will provide more variety and difficulty around the greens.
Bunkers: The team has nearly completed the strimming and edging of the bunkers. Additionally, we’ve redistributed sand into low areas, with ongoing adjustments throughout the year to maintain the bunkers in top condition."
Neil has also expressed his appreciate our golfers continued support and patience as the team works to enhance the course. As always, if you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reach out to .
