How To Prepare for Cold-Weather Golf

Playing in spring means cooler, damp conditions, but with a few adjustments, you’ll enjoy the fairways as much as any other day.

Dress in Layers To Stay Warm

Anyone familiar with the Irish weather will tell you that spring temperatures can fluctuate dramatically. One minute you’ll be caught in a gust of bitter wind and the next the sun will break through the clouds and make you sweat.

Be ready for the changeable weather with thermal base layers, a windproof jacket, and gloves to stay comfortable. If the fairways are still soft from spring rains, waterproof trousers and shoes are recommended. Keep an eye on Deer Park's Instagram for course condition updates.

Choose The Right Golf Equipment

Did you know that cold air reduces ball distance? That’s right, you’re not rusty, it’s cold! Get around this by choosing your clubs carefully. Lower-compression golf balls can help maintain distance. Make sure to keep grips dry to ensure better control.

If you’re not sure you have the right equipment, check in with us at info@deerparkgolf.ie to ask advise or see what we have available for rent.

Adapt Your Strategy

Soft or wet fairways reward precision. During these conditions, focus on accuracy and smart course management rather than power. Embrace the challenge and let the early spring conditions sharpen your overall game.
